Biography
“I believe fashion is an ever-growing industry with new trends and styles; it is important for us to keep up with what consumers need,” says David Lui, a specialized marketing professional in fashion retail.
David Lui is the new vice-president of marketing at Mark’s and the new public face for the brand. He is responsible for all integrated marketing activities, internal and external communications, corporate partnerships and the company’s most recent acquisition of the Helly Hansen brand.
Lui will also be active on social media and posting tips and tricks on fashion wear for young professionals on the company’s blog “Not Just Boots.” He will be the host of Mark’s Fashion Now podcast, where he talks about young professionals making a difference in the community by featuring up-close and personal interviews.
For over 20 years, David has been working for multinational corporations. He was the director of public relations for Roots Canada, where he introduced several smart-casual clothing lines that appeal to the millennial market of young professionals. Before that, he was a merchandising manager for Tip Top and helped revitalize the brand by introducing a line of smart-casual shoes that bring style and comfort for professionals.
“Young professionals always struggle to find the perfect balance of formal, style and comfort,” said David. “It is essential that brands think about mixing all of these aspects in their fashion wear.”
David graduated first in his class with an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University. He researched changing trends in business casual attire and found out that consumers need comfortable clothing to be more productive in the workplace. Previously, he earned his BA in political science from the University of Toronto, where he wrote fashion reviews in the Conscientious Objector student newspaper. For further professional development, he took additional courses in fashion marketing at Humber College.
While David is active on the board of directors and governance committee for Hypertension Canada and the Calgary Marketing Association, with his role at Mark’s, he will also be involved with Jumpstart offering advisory support in fundraising and strategic planning.
As a member of the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS), he spoke at the CPRS National conference and is also a member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and the Canadian Investor Relations Institute (CIRI).
David lives in Toronto with his wife Payton Seppi, their son Fred, and daughter Sally. He is a member of The Boulevard Club, where he spends his spare time as a tennis instructor.
At Mark’s, David will be introducing more comfortable smart-casual clothing to help young Canadian professionals find their comfort at work.
