Colleges Ontario releases KPI survey data showing high levels of satisfaction and employment

Colleges Ontario has released Key Performance Indicator (KPI) survey data collected during fall 2016 into winter 2017 showing high levels of satisfaction and employment.

“We are very pleased with this year’s results,” said Linda Franklin, President and CEO of Colleges Ontario. “Our goal is to equip Ontario college students with the tools necessary to succeed in the workforce and to see how well our colleges are doing across various areas of performance illustrates just how well we are doing.”

For close to 20 years, colleges have been mandated by the Ontario government to collect and to report performance data in five areas: graduate satisfaction, student satisfaction, employer satisfaction, employment rate, and graduation rate. The KPI data shows the highest results in graduate employment, with a rate of 86.2 per cent, and employer satisfaction, with a rate of 89.6 per cent.

The KPI survey questionnaire is developed by an independent research company that handles the analysis and distributes the results to the president of each college and the executive director of Colleges Ontario.

Colleges Ontario is the association representing the province’s 24 public colleges. The association promotes the college’s pivotal role in strengthening the economy by producing graduates with the professional qualifications and expertise to succeed in rewarding careers. The Beer Store, Monopoly Profits and Government Revenue

Summary

A recent study conducted by the University of Waterloo, department of economics, found evidence that suggests The Beer Store’s (TBS) monopoly status has affected its product’s average prices in Ontario and Quebec. Calculations based on this study show TBS’s annual profits may be as high as $700 million.

Position Statement

The study compares a weighted average of price differences between domestic and imported brands’ beer prices between the two provinces. Data collected from Quebec grocery stores found an estimated median price difference of $3 to $6, without commodity taxes. The analysis was based on web prices posted by TBS and online flyers from Metro and IGA, Quebec grocery stores. Data on imported beer sold by Costco adds further credibility by revealing estimated price differences
ranging from $9 to $11 between Costco and The Beer Store.

TBS commissioned the Earnscliffe Strategy Group to review this analysis, and it suggests these estimates of beer price differences do not account for federal sales taxes and recycling deposit charges. These costs are included, the average difference between Ontario and Quebec beer prices is $3.34.

However, the Ontario Ministry of Finance website states the beer tax is charged only for beer manufactured in Ontario, proving that this price difference is not applicable to all beer.

The province has given beer manufacturers the legal right to a retail monopoly in Ontario, which allows for higher revenue. Is this fair to consumers or manufacturers?

The Ontario Convenience Store Association is a non-profit organization that represents 7,500 convenience store retailers in Ontario.

Sun science has a primary question that asks why people still lay in the sun like lizards when they know its risks. For a long time, researchers have doubted a connection between UV exposure and natural “feel good” molecules known as beta-endorphins; these molecules are also released in the body while exercising. But the evidence has been vague for many years, mainly because the scientists who looked for this molecule’s signs could not find the endorphin surge after exposure to ultraviolet light in people’s blood.

Researchers are looking for a connection between UV exposure and beta-endorphins, molecules to feel good while lying in the sun and exercising. Still, scientists have failed to find it in peoples’ blood after UV exposure.
